The design of the aquapark in Myślęcinek, Bydgoszcz, has been developed as a multifunctional sports and leisure complex of supra-local significance. The facility integrates sports, recreational, rehabilitation, and commercial functions, creating a year-round centre for activity and relaxation. A distinctive feature of the concept is the use of lightweight roof structures made of ETFE membrane, which provide natural daylighting and a characteristic, contemporary architectural form.
A year-round aquapark with natural daylight and a tropical atmosphere
The project envisions the creation of a modern, multifunctional year-round aquatic recreation centre that integrates sports, leisure, and wellness functions within a single cohesive space. The architecture of the facility is guided by the principle of maximizing the use of natural daylight and creating an environment reminiscent of open-air bathing facilities.
The use of lightweight roof structures made of ETFE membrane allows natural daylight to penetrate the interior while creating a year-round tropical atmosphere. The facility offers users a leisure experience that combines the comfort of an indoor environment with the sensation of being outdoors, enhancing both the quality of use and the overall attractiveness of the development.
The concept was developed for the area of the Myślęcinek Forest Park of Culture and Leisure—one of the largest recreational areas in Poland. Its location within a green, natural landscape supports the integration of aquatic functions with the park setting, creating a cohesive recreational environment of high functional value.
The development aligns with the character of the site as a space for active leisure, expanding its programme to include a year-round aquatic recreation centre accessible to local residents as well as visitors from the wider region.
The project предусматривает a clear division of the facility into sports, recreational, and relaxation zones, responding to the needs of different user groups. The sports section includes an Olympic-size pool hall with seating for 1,000 spectators, enabling the organization of competitions and swimming training.
The recreational zone comprises a leisure pool hall and an extensive range of water attractions, including a wave pool, water channel, lazy river, lagoon, multiple leisure pools, and a complex of water slides. The design also addresses the needs of families with children by incorporating paddling pools and shallow water basins.
The programme is complemented by a sauna area, food service facilities, a rehabilitation centre, and a fitness club, giving the complex the character of a comprehensive centre for recreation, health, and relaxation.
A key distinguishing feature of the project is the use of pneumatic ETFE membrane as the roof covering, along with a dome that illuminates the main recreational space. These solutions allow a large amount of natural daylight to enter the interior, creating a high-quality user environment with a distinctive visual identity.
The permeability of UV radiation enables the creation of sunbathing zones داخل the building and supports natural plant growth, enhancing the impression of a tropical environment. The lightweight structural form gives the facility a contemporary, recognizable character and emphasizes its recreational function.
