The Hallenbad Schramberg is a modern indoor swimming facility developed as a completely new building on the site of a former bathing complex. The project is distinguished by its dynamic user space, strong visual identity, and the introduction of non-standard recreational features, such as a suspended aquacross installation.
An activity space above the water surface
The design of the Hallenbad Schramberg redefines the conventional approach to indoor swimming facilities by introducing elements of activity that go beyond standard use. A key feature of the project is the aquacross installation—a system of ropes, grips, and obstacles suspended above the water surface, enabling movement across the pool and creating a new way of interacting with the space.
Combined with exposed technical installations and a bold color palette, the interior acquires a dynamic, contemporary character, closer to an activity-oriented environment than a traditional swimming facility.
The building takes the form of a compact, horizontal volume with simple geometry, complemented by large glazed openings that bring natural light into the pool hall. The external architecture has been deliberately simplified, while the primary expression is shifted to the interior, where color and detail play a key role.
The functional layout has been designed in an intuitive manner. The central element is a sports pool with swimming lanes and starting blocks, complemented by a non-swimmers’ pool and a learning area. This arrangement allows different user groups to use the space simultaneously without functional conflicts.
The recreational zone has a more intimate character—a children’s paddling pool and play elements are designed using warm materials, stone details, and softly shaped seating. A steam bath complements the programme.
A key aspect of the concept is a coherent visual identity. Vibrant colors—yellows, reds, and blues—organize the space, guide users, and define the character of the interior.
