The completed “Hardbergbad” facility in Baden-Baden is a compact sports and leisure complex that seamlessly combines swimming and recreational functions within a green park setting. The development includes a lap pool, a leisure pool, and a dedicated diving area, complemented by technical facilities and changing areas. The overall concept is based on a clear, functional layout and a sensitive integration into the existing landscape.
Character and Function of the Facility
The “Hardbergbad” complex was designed as a seasonal facility with a clear and legible functional structure, tailored to meet the needs of the local community in terms of both sport and water-based recreation. The programme includes a dedicated lap pool for swimming, a leisure pool, and a separate diving zone. These are complemented by changing facilities, technical infrastructure, and user-oriented amenities.
Integration with the Landscape
A key aspect of the design concept is the integration of the facility into the surrounding greenery while preserving the open, park-like character of the space. The service building is conceived as a low, horizontal volume with a calm architectural expression, forming a subtle backdrop to the water zones rather than dominating the landscape. Material and functional solutions were selected with durability and ease of maintenance in mind.
Design and Operational Solutions
The project is characterised by rational design decisions, a clear circulation layout, and cost optimisation, all achieved without compromising on user quality. The facility serves as a local recreational hub, supporting both swimming training and outdoor leisure activities.
