The distinctive reinforced concrete walls evoke the shoreline, while the undulating roofs symbolize the waves of the sea, creating a cohesive architecture full of light and openness. The Navy Sports Center combines sports, recreational, and social functions, meeting academic, local, and tourist needs.
A complex of three integrated buildings
The main concept behind the design of the complex is to reference, through the architectural style of the proposed sports facilities, recognizable symbols of the Navy, as well as the nearby Naval Academy Library. The complex consists of a group of three integrated buildings with distinct functions: a swimming pool hall and a sports hall, connected by a multifunctional lobby. Additionally, the concept предусматривает the inclusion of an athletics stadium and sports fields, complemented by landscaped green areas located within the project boundaries. The entire development forms the Naval Sports Center in Gdynia, providing opportunities for practicing multiple sports simultaneously for the academic community, local residents, and visitors alike. The complex features a modern, modernist architectural style.
Maritime character
The central structural element of the complex consists of five massive reinforced concrete walls, whose form references coastal breakwaters. The function of these breakwaters is to reduce the force of storm waves, which are symbolically reflected in the design through undulating roof forms. The spaces between the reinforced concrete walls are filled with glass in order to maximize the use of natural daylight within the building.
