The completed “Rappenwörtbad” bathing complex in Karlsruhe is a modern recreational facility with a strong family-oriented character, combining a variety of water-based functions within a natural riverside setting. The project includes an extensive zone of leisure pools, water slides, and relaxation areas, creating an attractive environment for users of all ages. A key aspect of the concept is its landscape-driven design, with pool basins and terrain shaped to reflect natural water forms.
Concept & Landscape Integration
The “Rappenwörtbad” bathing complex was designed as a seasonal recreational facility with a strong landscape identity, where architecture and water spaces blend seamlessly with the surrounding greenery. The overall composition is based on organically shaped pool basins inspired by natural water forms, creating a fluid transition between the built environment and the landscape.
Functional Program
The functional program includes a leisure pool with water attractions, a diving pool, and a complex of water slides. These are complemented by dedicated children’s areas with shallow basins and interactive water play elements, ensuring the facility responds to the needs of a wide range of users.
Design Approach & User Experience
A key aspect of the concept is terrain modeling combined with the introduction of water features such as geysers, showers, and flowing streams. These elements enhance the user experience and increase the overall attractiveness of the space. The entire facility was designed with a focus on durability, clarity of layout, and efficient long-term operation.
