A school swimming pool is more than just a sports facility. It is a place of everyday activity, learning and community building. The design of the swimming pool in Bydgoszcz was conceived as a contemporary space for both students and local residents, combining educational, sports and recreational functions. The architecture of the building organises the school campus and creates a clear, contemporary centre of activity.
A Swimming Pool Integrated into the School Campus
The design of the school swimming pool in Bydgoszcz was developed in response to the need for a modern sports facility functionally connected to the existing school building. The project is located on 11 Listopada Street, in the immediate vicinity of the VII General Secondary School, with which it shares a clear spatial and functional relationship. As a result, the swimming pool becomes a natural extension of the school campus and a place of everyday activity for both students and the local community. The architecture of the building draws on the history and geography of Bydgoszcz, taking inspiration from the character of the Brda River, the glacial valley and the city’s modernist architecture. The contemporary form of the building combines the sporting nature of the development with an orderly and restrained architectural composition. The design includes a swimming pool with a 12.5 × 25 m basin and a functional spatial layout focused on user comfort and the efficient organisation of the facility.
Architecture Inspired by the Local Context
The concept for the school swimming pool in Bydgoszcz brings together educational, sports and recreational functions within a single coherent structure. The building is conceived as an important part of both school and neighbourhood life, a place for learning to swim, everyday training and active leisure. Integrating the building into the existing school layout makes it possible to create a contemporary centre of activity that responds to the needs of different user groups. The architectural expression of the design is shaped by references to the city’s identity: its riverside landscape, broad glacial valley and the modernist simplicity of Bydgoszcz architecture. As a result, the building gains a strong local grounding and a distinct contemporary character. The whole has been designed as a clear, functional and welcoming space where sport meets architecture shaped around everyday use.
