The design was based on a nod to the brick architecture of Mölln and the use of the site's assets – topography, sunlight, and existing trees – which influenced the layout of the pools and functional areas. The facility includes three pools arranged according to depth, a pirate-themed water playground for children, and a sauna with the possibility of expansion surrounded by trees.
Harmony of brick
The primary design criterion was to reference the use of brick characteristic of the city of Mölln. Other factors that played an important role included the topography, sunlight, and tree cover. The building was designed so that all the pools were located on a south-east axis, where sunlight was the most effective.
Because the natural tree stand has been preserved, it is possible to build a sauna among the trees, imitating the popular treehouse. The sauna with a courtyard was planned on the west side, so that guests, who usually visit in the afternoon, can enjoy its charms at sunset.
The layout of the three pools was designed according to decreasing water level – the section begins with a sports pool (depth 2.00 m), then a recreational pool with a raised floor (depth from 0.00 m to 1.80 m), and finally, a visually and acoustically separated children's wading pool. This provides visitors with a clear spatial layout and ensures safety when using the water attractions.
The children's play and swimming area was designed to give it a unique character – the main theme is the world of pirates. Attractions include a shipwreck, water cannons, geysers, fountains, and a rock wall with a waterfall.
